THE ADMIRABLE SERCRETE OF THE HOLY ROSARY. BY SAN LUIS MARIA GRIGNION DE MONTFORT

49th Pink

151) In order that, by praying the Rosary, you win the indulgences granted to the confreres of the Holy Rosary, it is convenient to make some observations about indulgences.

Indulgence, in general, is a remission or moderation of the temporal penalties due for actual sins, by the application of the superabundant satisfactions of Jesus Christ, of the Blessed Virgin and of all the saints, which are locked up in the treasures of the Church.

The plenary indulgence is a remission of all penalties due for sin; non-plenary, like a hundred, a thousand years, more or less, is the remission of as many penalties as we could have expiated for a hundred or a thousand years if we had done during that time, proportionally, the penances enumerated in the ancient canons of the Church. Now, these canons ordered, for a single mortal sin, seven and sometimes ten and even fifteen years of penance, so that a person who had committed twenty mortal sins had to do, at least, seven times twenty years of penance, and so on.

152) For the confreres of the Rosary to win indulgences, it is necessary: 1) That they are truly repentant and that they have confessed and taken communion, as the bulls of indulgences say. 2) That they have no affection for venial sin, because if the affection for sin subsists, the guilt subsists, and if the guilt subsists, the penalty is not forgiven. 3) They must do the prayers and good works indicated in the bulls. When, according to the intention of the Popes, a partial indulgence, for example, of one hundred years, can be won without winning the plenary, it is not always necessary - to win the partial - to have confessed and received communion. This is what happens with the indulgences granted to the prayer of the Holy Rosary, to processions, to blessed Rosaries, etc. Do not despise these indulgences.

153) Flammin and a large number of authors refer that a distinguished young lady named Alejandra, miraculously converted, and enrolled in the Brotherhood of the Rosary for Santo Domingo, appeared to him after her death and told her that she was condemned to seven hundred years of purgatory for several sins that she had committed and caused several to commit with her worldly vanities, and she begged him to alleviate her and make the confreres of the Rosary soothe her with their prayers; so did the Saint. Fifteen days later she reappeared in Santo Domingo brighter than a sun, because in such a short time she had been liberated by the prayers that the brothers of the Rosary made for her.He also warned the Saint that he was coming from the souls in purgatory to exhort him to continue preaching the Rosary and to make their relatives participate in their Rosaries, for which they would reward them.

abundantly when they came to glory.
