But most of the argumentation has focused on establishing the “what” of the controversial issues of Fatima - where is the truth in regards to the Secret, to the Consecration, all those issues that I just listed? But in a real sense, those questions have already been answered. Of course, they were not answered in all their details, nor answered in a way to satisfy the skeptics within the Church or in the outside world, yet, objectively, the main points are determined, thanks to the people who spent their money. time to research them. Sure I can only imagine how frustrating it must be,the fact that he tried decades ago to get the Vatican to acknowledge the simple facts that his investigations had established long ago.

But, in many ways, the most important question we must ask ourselves is not just "what", but "why." Or maybe I should say, “Why not? Why not reveal the text of the Secret? Why not consecrate Russia by name”?

I will leave for another time most of the "why" about the Secret, intriguing and important as it is. Sure enough, I'm going to have to deviate from them just for a moment. We must ask, for example, why Pope John XXIII's spokesman said that not only would the Secret not be disclosed in 1960, it would most likely remain "forever under absolute secrecy."Why did Cardinal Ottaviani say that he would be sent to "one of those archives that are like a well" where he would "sink into the dark and black depths"? Why did John Paul II say in 1982 that the Secret could be "misinterpreted" and Cardinal Ratzinger said in 1985 that its premature disclosure could result in "sensationalism" - in both cases long after the Pope's recovery from the terrorist bombing? ¿nineteen eighty one? The possibility that the Secret could give an unfavorable idea of ​​certain contemporary ecclesiastics or warn about great punishments that will come - hypotheses that were suggested by people who came to read the Secret of Fatima - does not seem, by itself, to be a probable reason for delete the Message. After all,other approved apparitions were equally severe - La Salette warning about apostasy within the hierarchy. The then Cardinal Ratzinger said, in truth, that the Message of Fatima is similar to that of other Marian apparitions. It may be that the dissemination of such a notice in the much more publicized case of Fatima had more widespread repercussions than the same ads in lesser-known apparitions, causing even panic among the faithful, as some have feared.

However, there may be stricter and more specific reasons. At the same meeting, Pope John Paul II said that his "predecessors in the Petrine Office diplomatically preferred to postpone the publication, so as not to encourage the world power of Communism to take certain measures." Similarly, Cardinal Ottaviani said in 1967 that the Secret was such a delicate matter that it was necessary to prevent it "falling into the hands of others." Even in 1996, Cardinal Ratzinger echoed the concept of "strategic postponement", saying that "divulging the Secret should only be done when it was not possible to create unilateralism and imbalance."

Malichi Martin was one of those who placed such concerns in a geopolitical and even military context. The "world power of Communism" that Pope John Paul II referred to was not something that Father Martin thought had dissipated in 1989, and he considered that it was entirely possible that recent Popes were afraid that an untimely disclosure of the Third Secret. Without knowing the answers to all of our "why" and "why us" about the Secret, it is impossible to say with absolute certainty that the reason (s) for the failure of the Holy See to disclose the full text of the Secret are not good reasons, or maybe good enough to justify the attitude you decided to take. So far the opinion of the conferesist.

4.
