Consequently, We who are constituted sentinel of the house of Israel, which is the Holy Church; We, who, by virtue of our pastoral ministry, have an obligation to prevent the Lord's flock from suffering any loss, which by divine disposition has been entrusted to Us, we judge that in such a grave cause it is prescribed for us to repress the impure efforts of these perverse " . The Pope finally reiterates the sentence: excommunication.

 

Leo XII: the infamous project of the secret societies.

 

Drawing the conclusions of these three documents, Pope Leo XII declares his thought regarding these societies and even quotes a new one:

Hence the secret sects, since they were tolerated, have lit the torch of rebellion. It was expected that after so many victories achieved in Europe by powerful princes the efforts of the wicked would be repressed, but they were not; Before, on the contrary, in the regions where the first storms subsided, how much new disturbances and seditions are no longer feared, which these sects provoke with their audacity or their cunning! What dread do those impious daggers inspire that pierce the chest of those who are destined for death and fall without knowing who has hurt them! The Pope reiterates what his predecessor had already seen:

And do not think that all these evils, and others that we do not mention, are attributed without reason and slanderously to those secret sects. The books that these sectarians have had the audacity to write about Religion and governments, mocking authority, blaspheming majesty, saying that Christ is a scandal or foolishness;frequently teaching that there is no God, and that the soul of man ends together with his body; the rules and statutes with which they explain their designs and institutions state without shroud that we must attribute to them the crimes already mentioned and all those who tend to overthrow legitimate sovereignties and destroy the Church almost to its foundations. It must also be taken for granted and undoubtedly that, although these sects are diverse in name, they are nevertheless united among themselves by a guilty bond of the most impure designs.

So there is a real organization, as the Pope recalls:

"We think it is our obligation to condemn these secret societies again." (When will a Pope emerge who returns to retake all this doctrine and courageously defend the church against this infernal fire of Masons who have already undermined all order, both civil, moral and religious?
